چکیده

This research report looks at alternatives to glutaraldehyde for the disinfection of endoscopes. It highlights their benefits and limitations. The work was commissioned because of the historically high number of cases of occupational asthma caused by glutaraldehyde. There is no single system for disinfection and no single most appropriate disinfectant. Many users are moving away from glutaraldehyde towards other products, some of which are regarded as potential asthmagens. Chlorine base Sterilox A (low hazard) 1 (general ventilation) Chlorine base Tristel A (low hazard) 1 (general ventilation) Peroxygen Virkon S (1% liquid) A (low hazard) * 1 (general ventilation) Peracetic Acid NuCidex/Aperlan C (medium hazard) * 3 (containment) Orthophthalaldehyde CidexOPA C (medium hazard) * 3 (containment) 2% Glutaraldehyde Cidex E (special case) 4 (special case) * CidexOPA is subject to requirement for selfclassification within EU legislation. This assessment is based on manufacturer data. This report and the work it describes were funded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Inverse Miniemulsion Method for Synthesis of Gelatin Nanoparticles in Presence of CDI/NHS as a Non-toxic Cross-linking System

In this research, gelatin nanoparticles were synthesized via inverse miniemulsion method by employing a mixture of a water soluble carbodiimide (CDI) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) as a non-toxic cross-linking system. The gelatin nanoparticles were characterized for their size and size distribution, morphology and stability and were compared with those of nanoparticles cross-linked by glutarald...

Chemical composition of biotite as a guide to petrogenesis of granitic rocks from Maherabad, Dehnow, Gheshlagh, Khajehmourad and Najmabad, Iran

Biotite, the dominant ferromagnesian mineral in granitoid rocks, can be used to discriminate tectonic setting, magma types and magnetite- ilmenite series. In this study, we analyzed biotite with an electron microprobe (wavelength dispersion) from different granitoids. Intrusive rocks from Maherabad porphyry Cu-Au prospecting are meta-aluminous. Biotite from Maherabad are Mg-rich type and the ra...

Effect of Two Disinfecting Agents on the Microleakage of Resin-Based Composite Restorations in Primary Teeth

Introduction: Disinfection of the cavity preparation after caries excavation can lead to the elimination of bacterial remnants that can be responsible for recurrent caries, postoperative sensitivity, and failure of the restoration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of two disinfectants on microleakage of composite restorations in primary teeth. Metho...

D-value determinations are an inappropriate measure of disinfecting activity of common contact lens disinfecting solutions.

Determination of a D value for specific test organisms is a component of the efficacy evaluation of new contact lens disinfecting solutions. This parameter is commonly defined as the time required for the number of surviving microorganisms to decrease 1 logarithmic unit. The assumption made in establishing a D value is that the rate of kill exhibits first-order kinetics under the specified cond...

Sodium Alginate/Starch Blends Loaded with Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride as a Floating Drug Delivery System - In Vitro Evaluation

In the present study, Floating Drug Delivery Beads (FDDS) were prepared with sodium alginate/ starch blend as a matrix, sodium hydrogen carbonate as a pore forming agent, methyl cellulose as a binder and barium chloride solution as a hardening agent. In order to prepare the beads with different porosity and morphology the ratio between pore forming agent to polymer blend and ratio of the co...
